How is project flow displayed in your portfolio reviews?
Products-in-Development FLOW. Each bubble represents a project. Color indicates the targeted market segment. Size reveals the relative “go-forward” NPV. And the slice within the bubble shows the risk/probability of success of the project. The X-axis is the number of months until launch. The Y-axis is the project agile-gate progress location. The vector shows the project’s movement since the last review meeting. The desired movement is from the upper left to the lower right.
Flow Matters
Understanding project flow is critical to good portfolio management. And flow visualization is the key to convey such insight.
But how do you create the “Products-in-Development Flow” view like the one above? It’s portfolio visualization at it’s best; created by smart data analytics pulled off by MS Power BI … then coupling the data to our tried-and-true tool called PortViewTM. This is a credit card sized investment, not an IT capital expenditure! We even set up a means to create the charts for you without sharing confidential data.
